What is it like to grow up deaf in a hearing world?

i know this is a common question but mine is a little different. recently my hearing has lessened and i am a beginner signer and have always been fascinated with the deaf culture when i talked with my friends wbout deaf pride now they began to make fun of it i was extremely offened. I understand that their are different levels of deafness and there are things to help like hearing aids and what not i would just like to know some experiences of growing up deaf. like if your family ws hearing or not did they choose to learn sign how long before you were diagnosed? etc.
